How Can You Help? Become a Tutor!

Join the Fight Against Illiteracy!
You can make a difference in people's lives by giving the gift of literacy. Volunteer your time, and you’ll have the fulfillment of knowing that you are not only aiding individuals, but also building stronger, more successful communities.
You Can Become a Literacy Volunteer Tutor:
LVKC trains volunteer tutors to work with adult Basic Literacy learners or English as a Second Language learners.
Tutors in the Literacy Volunteers of Kent County literacy program receive intensive instruction through a series of workshops that prepare them to teach one-on-one or in small groups. After completing an 18-hour training workshop, our tutors are matched with adult students. They are expected to work together for a minimum of 2 hours per week. The tutor and the student decide where and when to meet. Lessons are typically conducted in libraries, churches, or community centers. Our tutors receive ongoing support and guidance as needed. You must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
Donate Your Time: Non-Tutor Capacity
There are always opportunities to become involved with Literacy Volunteers of Kent County. Volunteer your time as tutors, on various committees, performing work for our Literacy Board, increasing our fundraising efforts, adding to our public awareness activity, and other tasks. All of these LVKC components are ongoing and are always in need of a few good ideas to keep our organization energized and forward moving.
