Read, Report, and Earn Prizes as Part of the Make Waves Teen Summer Reading Program!

Who?
All students entering grades 6-12 are eligible to participate.

What?
*Read 2 books, receive a Makes Waves book bag, magnetic bookmark, and mood pencil.

*Read 4 books, receive a Makes Waves book light.

*Read 6 books or more, receive a $10 Barnes and Noble gift card and gain automatic entrance for the Makes Waves Grand Prize Raffle for a Showcase Cinema Gift Pack and a McDonald’s gift card!


How?
You must submit an online review for each book you read using our report form. The online forms can be found on the Teen page of the website starting July 6th. You can read and review just about any book of your choice. Fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and audio books all count! These should be books that you have not previously read. Please do not include books that you are reading for school. Prizes will be awarded every 2 weeks. You will be e-mailed when you have been awarded a prize.


When?
You can begin submitting your online book review on July 6th. Reporting ends August 14th. Any online reviews cannot be submitted after this date.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you are entering Grades 7 and up and are looking for summer volunteer work, call 822-9102 or speak to a youth services librarian.  Work involves decorating, assisting with crafts & special events, and helping young children with book crediting. All hours can be counted as community service for school or church requirements. Contact the Youth Services department at 822-9102 to apply.

 

Special Programs

Friday, June 25th at 2:30-   RHODE ISLAND PIRATE PLAYERS- Ever wonder what pirates were like, or how they lived when they came ashore? Well this summer you can find out. Join the Rhode Island Pirate Players at your local library as they participate in the Summer Reading Program. The fearsome crew will be setting up encampments where you can see what tools of the trade where used, and hear stories about what life was like in pirate-infested colonial Rhode Island. Friday, August 20th from 1:00-3:00- TEEN ICE CREAM SOCIAL- This 2 hour event is open to all teens that participated in the summer reading program. Play Pop Culture Jeopardy and make your own ice cream sundaes. Final prizes will be distributed, and we will hold the drawing for the grand prize.

Friday, July 9th @ 1:00- DECORATE YOUR OWN BEACH BAG! Use fabric paint, sequins, and more to decorate your own neon canvas tote bag for the beach!
Friday, July 16th @ 1:00- MAKE A FISH WIND CHIME!
Friday, July 23rd @ 1:00- FLIP FLOP BOXES- Decorate your own ceramic flip flop box.
Friday, July 30th @ 1:00- MAKE YOUR OWN COWRIE SHELL CHOKER NECKLACE.
Friday, August 6th @ 1:00- SAND ART! Using our neon sand and wavy decorative bottles, these sand art bottles make a unique and lasting summer craft.
Friday, August 13th @ 1:00- FISH SUN CATCHER FRAME. Make your summer memories sparkle in the sunlight with a fish sun catcher frame.
