The Slave who escaped from George and Martha Washington, Thursday, June 6, 7 pm.

Gwendolyn Quezaire-Presutti who portrayed Harriet Tubman so beautifully returns as the slave Oney Judge Staines.  Oney served Martha Washington as her personal attendant.  While the Washington family was living in Philadelphia as the temporary capital of the United States, Oney took the opportunity to simply walk away from her enslavement.  The freed black population of Philadelphia enabled her escape to New Hampshire. Oney lived there as a free woman until she died at 75, but although she was never caught, she was never quite free of her worry that the Washingtons would reclaim her.  Come hear a story that has rarely been told.
