Discover a true story from RI's diverse history, in celebration of RI250. Linda Crotta Brennan will present the history of African Americans who fought and the part they played in the Revolutionary War. In 1778, struggling to find recruits, Rhode Island Offered slaves their freedom in return for serving in the Continental Army. The RI First Regiment was the result including African Americans, Native Americans and white men. Author Linda Brennan shares her hunt to uncover the story of this Regiment, and how she and the illustrator strove to give an accurate portrayal of this important piece of history.
